CEO Affairs Interview with Helanie Scott
Q: Who are you as a person, inside and outside of work?
I’m an early riser and start my day surrounded by nature at my ranch—feeding our chickens, ducks, dogs, turtles, and now peacocks. I tend to the vegetable and flower gardens before shifting into research and reflection. My mornings fuel my work, where I deliver leadership workshops to audiences worldwide.
Curiosity drives me. Beyond client work, I invest time in program design, habit-building strategies, and engaging with consultants across industries. These interactions keep me tuned into market trends and allow me to exchange innovative best practices with a global network of peers.
Q: Can you share your background before launching Align4Profit?
I grew up in a small mining town in South Africa and struck out on my own in Johannesburg at 21. I started my career training actors and presenters for commercials and film, eventually coaching corporate leaders on their presence in public and media settings.
Through this work, I noticed something striking: many leaders’ struggles went deeper than public image. Organizational politics and rigid hierarchies were holding them back. This realization pushed me to dig into leadership and organizational development—knowledge that ultimately inspired Align4Profit.
Q: How did Align4Profit come into being?
After deepening my expertise, I emigrated to Canada and later to the United States, where I established Align4Profit. My mission was clear: help leaders align personal and organizational purpose, creating cultures where people and performance thrive together.
Q: What has driven your success, and what values guide you?
My success comes from a commitment to helping leaders shape workplaces where everyone benefits. Over the years, working in diverse cultures has given me unique insight into how leaders can unlock extraordinary performance.
I operate by what I call CHI—Courage, Honesty, Integrity. These values guide every Align4Profit program. We don’t just deliver theory—we implement practical, science-backed tools that empower leaders to execute strategy and positively impact their teams, stakeholders, and communities.
Q: What services does Align4Profit offer, and how do you stay competitive?
Research shows nearly half of what people do each day is driven by habit. Leaders’ habits—both productive and unproductive—directly impact organizational success. Align4Profit focuses on leadership development, executive coaching, and culture transformation that reshape habits to drive execution and engagement.
Our competitive edge comes from combining proven behavioral science with habit-tracking technology. This ensures we don’t just train—we measure and sustain behavior change.
Q: What is the foundation of your company culture?
After more than 25 years in human capital development, our culture is grounded in science-based learning, global best practices, and sustainable behavior change. We treat leadership growth as an ongoing journey—tracking progress, identifying top influencers, and measuring impact so organizations can adjust in real time.
We’re especially focused on preparing younger talent for leadership roles, ensuring they can connect with and inspire a multigenerational workforce.
Q: How important is innovation to Align4Profit’s work?
Innovation is critical. We embrace agility, experiment with new ideas, and adapt to shifting business landscapes. Our programs integrate lessons learned during the pandemic, ensuring leaders know how to create environments that support peak performance.
What truly differentiates us is our behavioral-science foundation. Our habit-builder platform offers actionable data to HR and executives, enabling smarter decisions around leadership development and organizational culture.
Q: Do organizations depend more on individual heroics or team processes?
While standout contributions are valuable, sustained success comes from cohesive teams. That’s why we created RAMPP—our motivation model that empowers both individuals and teams to consistently perform at their best.
Q: As Founder, what are your responsibilities, and what brings you the most joy each day?
I’m responsible for aligning Align4Profit with its purpose: making a meaningful difference in every life we touch. This means ensuring our programs, messaging, and actions are true to that purpose.
The most rewarding part of my day is watching our team deliver transformative results—seeing leaders embrace courage, take action, and create ripple effects of positive change within their organizations.
Q: What advice would you give new leaders?
Effective leadership requires discipline, intentionality, and a strong sense of purpose. Understand your “why” and make decisions that align with it.
Equally important, maintain balance. Seek new experiences to stay energized—whether through travel, hobbies, or adventure. Personally, I’ve traveled to 43 countries, and my most recent adventure—skydiving—reminds me that courage and curiosity are essential both in life and in leadership.
