An Interview with Michele Lee Malo — CEO Affairs
Q: How would you describe yourself personally and professionally?
What you see is what you get—I’m the same person in every environment. I’m high-energy, naturally curious, and thrive in dynamic situations. My ADHD often works in my favor, keeping me creative, adaptable, and always ready to explore new opportunities. I approach everything—inside and outside of work—with enthusiasm and a sense of wonder.
Q: Can you share your career background before launching your business?
I spent two decades in corporate leadership, primarily within Fortune 500 companies in the foodservice sector. Along the way, I built expertise in launching new products, driving innovation, and revitalizing brands.
I began my career at Dunkin’ Donuts, managing local marketing and promotional campaigns in Chicago. From there, I took on brand stewardship roles at Kraft Foods for iconic names like Oscar Mayer, Oreo, and Maxwell House. At Kellogg’s, I oversaw the Cookies and Crackers portfolio and worked with partners like the Culinary Institute of America. At Barilla US, I developed the foodservice marketing platform and repositioned products for multiple segments. Later, as Global Marketing Manager for Scholle, I expanded into international markets—leading projects in Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Taiwan, and South Korea.
Q: How did your business journey begin?
At 28, I faced a personal health crisis—my 5’5” frame was carrying 310 pounds, and I threw out my back just getting out of bed. That was my turning point. Over time, I lost 170 pounds and regained my health. The transformation inspired me to rethink my career. I realized I was done making other companies rich at the expense of my time, health, and relationships.
Initially, I left corporate to become a personal trainer, helping others reclaim their health. Many of my clients were professional peers, and I found myself increasingly coaching them not just on fitness but on career transitions, business strategy, and life changes. That’s when I expanded my practice to include transition coaching and business consulting.
Q: What do you believe has driven your success? What values do you hold most important?
I’m not one for the status quo. I welcome change, even when it’s uncomfortable, because I see it as an opportunity. I love creating—whether that’s strategies, solutions, or entirely new directions. Building strong relationships and connecting with incredible people has opened doors I once only dreamed of. My philosophy? Live like your hair is on fire—approach life and work with intention and energy.
Q: What services does your company provide, and how do you help clients stand out?
I believe a brand is only as strong as the people behind it. My work focuses on unlocking potential—whether that’s for corporate teams, entrepreneurs, or individuals making career moves. My coaching style blends accountability with encouragement—I’m both a straight-shooter and a strong supporter.
For Corporate Clients:
I help organizations refine business strategies, rebrand products, build marketing systems, develop training programs, and nurture internal leadership talent. I specialize in aligning teams with vision, driving collaboration, and translating strategy into results.
For Entrepreneurs:
I guide small business owners in strengthening their operations, refining branding, and improving team dynamics. For startups, I offer go-to-market strategies, help craft business plans, and connect founders with the right networks to launch successfully.
For Career Coaching Clients:
I work closely with professionals in transition—helping them rediscover passions, identify transferable skills, and position themselves for their next chapter. Often, one key introduction or a shift in positioning can completely transform their career path.
